The Salvation Army Social Service Office /Food Pantry – Long Beach, CA

On any given week you will find the Army’s Social Services/Food Pantry working on various tasks having to do with the daily operations of the Food Pantry and other services. On a daily basis they receive food donations from Food Finders and various stores in the area and they pick up milk and snacks from two local elementary schools. On an average week they will provide food bags to 150 homeless and 75 – 125 food boxes for needy families, elderly and veterans. They also help newly housed veterans with a “Welcome Home Kit” that helps eliminate some of the stress of getting settled in their new homes. Some of the items included are dishes, glassware, flatware, pots and pans, cooking utensils, bath towels and other household items, plus a $50 gift card to Wall Mart and a $300 voucher to our Salvation Army Thrift store.
